How can Laàs attract and nurture an active population that will contribute to the future of the Principality?

laaspop.JPGThe first of the Principality’s challenges concerns demographics.  If the village counted nearly 700 citizens in the 19th century, the last census accounted for but 132 inhabitants of Laàs.

A related concern comes from the age distribution of the population. More than thirty percent of the current population is sixty years of age or older.

In these conditions, the traditional industries of Laàs – stone masonry and arts and crafts have almost disappeared.

Last, but not least, there isn’t a great deal of zoned land available for new housing and industry.  Four buildings are currently for sale, and four tracts of land can currently be developed.
